Bike Fitting & Sizing Charts

Bike Fitting Services

Fit is a critical part of achieving your greatest potential for performance, but performance doesn’t only mean race results. Performance can be something as simple as getting a little more comfortable to let yourself enjoy longer and longer rides, or it can be as complex as alleviating pain and soreness from an injury or medical condition. Our fitting philosophies are tailored to recognize and address what your specific goals are for fit. “The burn” is the only thing you should be feeling after a good, hard ride and that’s what proper fitting is all about

Our John Peterson is a Master Specialized BG Fitter, has completed seminars with fit guru Michael Sylvester, and uses lasers. John has over a decade of fitting experience along with more time racing mountain, road, and cyclo-cross bikes than he might like to admit to, anymore.

A fitting at bikebarn is included with the purchase of a bicycle over $1500. If you buy a bicycle under $1500, the cost of your first fitting is $75 -- half off the full price of $150.

Fit Can Be Tricky

So many bikes. Sizes in inches? Sizes in centimeters? S, M, L, XL? How do you make sense of it all? There are some basic standards that apply across many styles of bikes. We've put these into the charts, below, to give you a better idea of where to begin, based on your height.

Finding the proper bike size hinges on three things. First, of course, is your height; simple enough - most of us know how tall we are. Second is your body proportion - inseam, torso length, arm length, etc.; a little more complex, but it's still just numbers. Finally, though, is your comfort. A racer or hardcore enthusiast will feel comfortable on a different bike than a casual rider of the same height and proportions. This is where we come in.

We can offer guidance to get you on the right size bike that you can enjoy now, and grow with later. Come by the shop and test ride a few models. We'll listen and then make suggestions to point you to the perfect ride. Cyclists with serious performance goals can further benefit from our Body Geometry Fit service to fine tune a new bike's dimensions to maximize the rider's power and stamina.
